Academic Regulations (RG24)

1. Award of the Degree — Regular

• Students must pursue the course of study for not less than four and not more than eight academic years (extendable by up to two years under the Gap Year facility).
• Award of the B.Tech. Degree requires registering for and securing all 160 credits.
• Award of the degree with Honors requires an additional 18 credits, completed simultaneously with the B.Tech. programme; registering for Honors is optional.

Award of the Degree — Lateral Entry

• Students must pursue the course of study for not less than three and not more than six academic years (extendable by up to two years under the Gap Year facility).
• Award of the B.Tech. Degree requires registering for and securing all 120 credits.
• Award of the degree with Honors requires an additional 18 credits, on top of the 120 required for the base degree.

2. Structure of the Undergraduate Programme (160 credits)

Credit Definition

• 1 Hour Lecture (L) per week = 1 credit
• 1 Hour Tutorial (T) per week = 1 credit
• 1 Hour Practical (P) per week = 0.5 credit
• 2 Hours Practical (Lab) per week = 1 credit

3. Programme Pattern

• Total duration of the B.Tech. (Regular) programme is four academic years, each divided into two semesters of a minimum 90 instruction days.
• A mandatory three-week Student Induction Programme is held for freshers before the first semester begins.
• Health/wellness/yoga/sports and NSS/NCC/Scouts & Guides/Community service are mandatory credit courses; Environmental Sciences, Indian Constitution and Technical Paper Writing & IPR are non-credit mandatory courses.
• The curriculum offers 5 Professional Elective courses and 4 Open Elective courses, plus 5 skill-oriented courses across III–VII semesters.
• Two mandatory summer internships (minimum 8 weeks each) are required at the end of second year (community-oriented) and third year (industry-oriented), along with a full internship in the final semester alongside the project work.

4. Evaluation Process

Every subject is evaluated out of 100 marks — 30 for Continuous Internal Assessment and 70 for the Semester End Examination. A student must secure at least 35% in the end examination and 40% overall (mid + end) to pass; mandatory non-credit courses require 40% in internal assessment alone.

• Theory subjects: two mid-term exams (30 marks each — objective, subjective and assignment components), with 80% weightage to the better mid and 20% to the other.
• Practical subjects: 30 sessional marks (record/viva + internal test) and 70 end-examination marks (procedure, experimental work & results, viva voce).
• Design/drawing subjects such as Engineering Graphics follow a similar 30 internal + 70 external split, with the end exam consisting of 5 either/or questions of 14 marks each.

5. Skill-Oriented Courses & MOOCs

• Five skill-oriented courses are offered across III to VII semesters — two domain skill courses, one soft-skill course, and two advanced/interdisciplinary skill courses.
• Every student must complete one MOOC course (minimum 8–12 weeks) through a University-approved platform; core courses cannot be taken through MOOCs.
• Up to 20% of total programme credits (max. 32 credits) may be earned via MOOCs under the Academic Bank of Credits framework.

6. Honors & Minor

• A Minor requires 12 additional credits in a chosen stream, drawn from Open Elective offerings.
• Honors requires 18 additional credits in the student's own branch; eligibility requires a CGPA of 7 or above up to III semester with no backlog subjects.
• Registration for Honors opens in IV semester after III semester results are declared; a maximum of two Honors subjects can be taken per semester from V semester onwards.
• Honors students must maintain 75% attendance in Honors courses separately from their regular courses, and must pass every Honors subject — no class/division is awarded for the Honors programme itself.

7. Attendance Requirements

• Minimum 40% attendance in each subject and 75% aggregate attendance is required to appear for end examinations.
• Condonation of up to 10% shortage (65–75% range) may be granted a maximum of three times across the entire duration of study, subject to a prescribed fee; shortage below 65% cannot be condoned under any circumstances.
• Students whose shortage is not condoned are ineligible for that semester's end examinations and their registration for that semester stands cancelled.

8. Promotion Rules

• First year → Second year: subject to the minimum attendance requirement.
• Second year → Third year: requires securing 50% of the credits in subjects studied up to IV semester.
• Third year → Fourth year: requires securing 50% of the credits in subjects studied up to VI semester.
• Students detained for shortfall in credits may make up the deficit through supplementary examinations before being permitted to join the next year.

9. Grading System

SGPA = Σ(Ci × Gi) / ΣCi for a semester; CGPA is computed the same way across all semesters. Both are rounded to 2 decimal places.

Award of Class

CGPA-to-percentage conversion: (CGPA − 0.5) × 10.

10. Multiple Entry / Exit Option

• UG Certificate — exit after Year 1 (40 credits + a 10-credit bridge course including a 6-credit internship).
• UG Diploma — exit after Year 2 (80 credits + a 10-credit bridge course including a 6-credit internship).
• B.Sc. Engineering — exit after Year 3 (120 credits).

General

• Minimum instruction days per semester: 90.
• Medium of instruction for the entire programme, including examinations and project reports, is English.
• Results may be withheld if university dues are unpaid or a case of indiscipline/malpractice is pending against the candidate.
• In case of any doubt or ambiguity in interpreting the regulations, the decision of the Vice-Chancellor is final.
