Preamble

The principal objective of RISE Krishna Sai Gandhi Group of Institutions is to disseminate knowledge and impart instruction to its students in different disciplines broadly classified as Technical Education. The college also aims at promoting Research and Development, consultation and such other professional activities.

Being an affiliated college, the institution depends heavily on Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada (JNTUK) for the conduct of examinations, design of course curriculum, almanac, recruitment of teachers and various other activities. As one of several engineering colleges affiliated to JNTUK, any disruption to normal work in the college affects the institution alone — a fact every employee, teaching staff, supporting staff, ministerial staff and class IV staff, is expected to bear in mind.

The norms of conduct set out below are widely accepted in practice across academic institutions, and are laid down here for the guidance and strict adherence of all employees. This document is referred to as the "Code of Conduct" for employees of RISE Group of Institutions.

General principles

Employees, in the discharge of their duties and in their interactions with the public, government officials, students and parents, shall conduct themselves in a manner that enhances the prestige and image of the Institute and shall not do anything which impairs or tarnishes that image. Employees shall deal on behalf of the Institute with professional honesty and integrity; moral and ethical standards shall be fair, transparent, and be perceived as such by others. Employees shall not engage in any business activity or service relationship that may detrimentally conflict with the interests of the Institute.

Duties, punctuality & discipline

  • Delivering lectures and conducting laboratory, drawing and tutorial classes as per the approved scheme of instruction and almanac, with uniform coverage of syllabus in the prescribed time, is a sacrosanct duty. Failure to conduct classes according to the scheduled timetable without prior information or alternate arrangements is a serious dereliction of duty.
  • Every employee shall at all times maintain absolute integrity and devotion to duty, and shall do nothing against the dignity and prestige of the college — particularly in relationships with students. The Principal decides cases of infringement of this rule, after giving the employee concerned a reasonable opportunity to explain.
  • Conduct of University and internal examinations — including invigilation, evaluation and assessment — forms part of teaching duties. Non-teaching staff shall assist in examination arrangements and attend to all connected work assigned by the persons in charge.
  • All employees shall be punctual and strictly adhere to college timings. Laboratory support staff shall keep laboratories open, clean and presentable during working hours, and assist teachers and students in academic work.
  • All employees shall strictly obey instructions and circulars issued by the authorities from time to time.

Behaviour, trust & loyalty

  • No employee shall use disrespectful language while speaking to superiors, and shall give due respect for their position, rank, qualifications and knowledge. Staff must strictly obey the superiors under whose control they are deployed. Heads of Departments and in-charges are expected to give clear, feasible instructions in turn. No employee shall indulge in derogatory talk against colleagues, superiors, subordinates, students or members of management.
  • Employees shall not resort to any agitation that disrupts normal work in the college. Every employee shall strive to ensure the college is not subjected to embarrassing situations concerning the academic almanac. Protests, if any, should be lodged through suitable representations to the Grievance Committee and other decent means, and must never impair student progress.
  • The Management reposes trust in employees for the smooth functioning of classes, labs and all college and University-connected work; no employee is expected to undertake any outside job. Violation is treated as a breach of trust. Inciting colleagues, fomenting unrest on campus, or any activity that pollutes the academic atmosphere or undermines the Management's prestige constitutes a breach of trust dealt with under Service Conditions.
  • Teachers are expected to deal kindly with students within the framework of rules and without sacrificing discipline, and to keep attendance records up to date, reporting periodically as required.
  • Any action by any employee that obstructs normal work, embarrasses the administration, or tarnishes the college's image with the University or the public shall be seriously dealt with — punishment may range from withholding increments to removal from service, depending on the gravity of the action.
  • Instigating students to agitate or revolt against the administration is viewed as a subversive activity attracting disciplinary proceedings, with punishment ranging from withholding increments to removal from service.
  • Sincere, diligent, ungrudging work; assisting the administration through difficult situations; and extending sincere cooperation attract commendation from the college authorities. Employees, if invited, shall attend all college functions, seminars and meetings.

Recognition of excellence

Excellent teachers are recognised and honoured based on objective norms and demonstrated skills. Teachers who exhibit initiative and drive in securing substantial grants for R&D work, or for strengthening college infrastructure, receive special commendation.

Tuition, outside employment, gifts & subscriptions

  • Tuition: No college teacher shall engage in coaching any student privately for remuneration.
  • Private employment: No college employee shall undertake any employment, or accept any remunerative or honorary work or consultancy, that is not connected with the college.
  • Gifts: No college employee shall accept, or permit any family member to accept, any gift from any person that places them under any form of official obligation.
  • Uniform: All students and male faculty are required to wear the college uniform on all working days, except Mondays and Saturdays respectively.
  • Subscriptions: No college employee shall, without the Principal's prior sanction, ask for, accept, or participate in raising any subscription or other pecuniary assistance for any purpose, except for routine farewell and felicitation functions connected with the college.

Confidentiality & public conduct

  • Every employee shall honour the confidence reposed in them by the college and shall not divulge information obtained in the course of official duties to any unauthorised person, or make improper use of it. Staff connected with examination work must be especially cautious and must never divulge information passing through their hands to unauthorised persons.
  • Employees shall not, in any published document, communication to the press, or public utterance, indulge in public criticism of the college administration in a manner likely to undermine the dignity of the college or embarrass the administration in its relations with staff, students, the University, the Government or any other agency.
  • A college employee or staff association shall not have recourse to the press under any circumstances, and shall not approach any court for redressal of grievances without first representing the matter to the management.

Code of Conduct for Students

  • The use of mobile phones by students is stringently prohibited inside the college campus. Students found using cell phones will face rigorous disciplinary action.
  • Students travelling by two-wheeler must mandatorily wear helmets. Only students wearing helmets are permitted to park their vehicles inside college premises, and vehicles must be parked in the designated parking slot only.
  • Students must compulsorily wear their ID card while in the college campus, and particularly inside the classroom.
  • Students are expected to observe dignity and propriety in their dress and behaviour.
  • Students are expected to be in formal dress on Saturdays and must wear uniforms on all other days. Even on Saturdays, boys and girls are advised not to wear jeans or T-shirts of any kind. Girls are advised to wear simple, modest attire and are expected to be in Punjabi dresses.
  • Students found guilty of damaging or defacing college property will face severe consequences.

Rules regarding attendance & leave of absence

  • It is the responsibility of each student to attend classes regularly and punctually.
  • No student shall absent themself from any class without a proper leave application, made beforehand. If absence is necessitated by unforeseen circumstances, the leave application must be submitted no later than the first day of return to college. Leave applied for in time is normally granted when proper reasons are given. For illness exceeding five days, the HOD/Principal may demand a medical certificate.
  • Leave applications must be countersigned by a parent or guardian, and submitted to the respective HOD.
  • A student who absents themself without revealing the reason, for a period of ten working days, is liable to be taken off the rolls.
  • A student must attend at least 75% of working days to be eligible to write their examinations.
  • A student's attendance, academic progress and conduct — as evaluated by staff and the Principal — are the only considerations for promotion to the succeeding academic year or selection for University examinations.
  • Students who represent the college at debates, seminars, cultural meets, sports, games and other extra-curricular activities such as NSS earn attendance when the deputation is properly authorised by the appropriate faculty-in-charge.
